Charitable Contribution Request

Charitable Contribution Request

My name is Golden Barrett. I am the Executive Director for Monytek Human Services, Inc. We are a 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) non-profit agency located in Beaverton, Oregon. We serve as a Representative Payee for the United States Social Security Administration as well as a Fiduciary for the United States Department of Veteran Affairs. Please consider this our Letter of Inquiry.

We are seeking charitable grants or contributions to support us with our general operating expenses (office space rent and bills, wages, phones, paper and envelopes, etc). We are a very small business and have a tough time staying afloat with the minimal amount of money we make being a non-profit organization.

Monytek started in business in 1997 as a credit-counseling agency in Idaho Falls, Idaho. We opened a satellite office in Beaverton, Oregon in 2003 and now our main office is in Beaverton. Currently, we serve an estimated 300 clients in the Pacific Northwest (we are licensed to do business in Oregon, Washington and Idaho). We have a total of six employees (myself included, the two owners not included).

The main service we offer is our Financial Protection Program. It is designed to assist people who are elderly, disabled, veterans, mentally ill, handicapped, children, etc. who receive some sort of monthly income (whether it be governmental income or other income). We help these people by paying their monthly bills and disbursing weekly checks (of their own money) to them. Typically, these are people who cannot manage their own financial affairs. They can also be people who have been financially taken advantage of by a family member or friend who managed their finances at one point in time. Once a client comes onto our program, we submit the proper forms to the government to become their payee. Once appointed payee, we start to receive the monthly checks for the client and pay their monthly bills (rent, electricity, phone, internet, cable, etc) as well as disburse them weekly checks for groceries, gas for their car, etc. We try to budget their money for them so at the end of every month, they have some cushion to build up in case of emergency or special need.

For the services we provide, the Social Security Administration allows us to deduct no more than $34.00 out of our clients’ monthly checks, per month and per client. Being a non-profit organization, we do not ask EVERY client to pay that entire $34.00 ever month. We have some clients who do not pay us anything because they simply cannot afford anything. We receive most checks for our clients at the first of the month and that is the time when we deduct the $34.00 allowed per client. For December, that added up to an estimated $4,200.00. That is barely enough to pay our office space rent, electricity, and phone and internet bills. We have other monthly bills we are responsible for (wages, computer management, office supplies, etc) and we are falling behind in some of those categories. We cannot even afford to have our webpage updated with our new information.

We hope that you are willing to assist us in moving forward with our eligibility in receiving a grant from your foundation.
